Beyoncé's fourth album, rightly entitled 4, was released this past Tuesday in the States (earlier in other places). As friends and acquaintances tweeted and made Facebook statuses about getting the leak, I patiently waited....and waited....and waited for June 28. While I get the occasional download from time to time (I'm a avid music lover on a college student budget sorry), there are some artists that I've been rocking to since the very beginning of their careers who I will always buy. Beyoncé is one of them. Was definitely happy to finally have my deluxe version digital download of 4 on my iPod.

I figured that I would do a review of B's album. It took me a while to get this together, because I wanted to give a good review since it is Beyoncé haha, offer justification for my take, and not just give her a top score just because she's one of my favorite artists. So I listened to the album a couple of times through before writing anything, just to get a feel for it.

Listening to it all the way through, this is not a commercial album like I Am...Sasha Fierce or her other albums. Whereas all of her previous albums had bonafide #1 hits, 4 most likely won't. To be quite honest, there aren't a lot of radio friendly records, which is what people have come to expect of Beyoncé. However, I feel like with her having spent about half of her life in the music industry, she's entitled to experiment, irregardless of people's thoughts or worries about sales. Sometimes music should just be done for the love of music, and that's what this album shows. Again it's a long one, as all of my reviews tend to be, so bear with me! America Ferrera's Wedding Photo!

Former star of Ugly Betty America Ferrera tied the knot Monday night with her longtime boyfriend Ryan Piers Williams. Her rep told People, "The bride wore a dress by Amsale's Christos label and Fred Leighton earrings." The wedding ceremony was an intimate affair, with the couple surrounded by close friends and family, including America's former Ugly Betty co-stars Vanessa Williams and Rebecca Romijn, as well as Blake Lively, who America joined up with on The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

America looks absolutely beautiful. Dress isn't really my taste, but it works for her. Congrats to the happy couple!

"Blackout"-Smash Adamz (Song)

I had the opportunity a while back to interview one of my good friends that's working on getting his name in the industry, Smash Adamz. Smash recently released his first single, "Blackout," off of his upcoming mixtape Me, Myself, and Smash. The song, produced by producer Dre in Atlanta, is "straight bars, no hook," as Smash himself states. "For all who doubted me, turn your stereos up. This one's for you," he starts, and proceeds to GO IN! This "self-proclaimed winner" talks to his doubters and haters straight up and shows them that he is a force to be reckoned with. Check out "Blackout" below!

Blackout by Smash Adams

There is a potential for a video; I'll keep you guys posted. Me, Myself, and Smash, set to be released on Smash's birthday September 1, is a fresh start for the rapper, who has parted ways with his label YSZ Entertainment. Running solo for his first official mixtape, Smash said that the tape will have a wide range of songs, including songs with amazing punchlines like "Blackout," and songs for the club. And ummm, even a sex song where he's actually singing! "Oh Lawd Jesus..." My words exactly from the interview haha. "It's a lot of diversity, a little mix of everything," Smash said. "So I just hope everyone can catch onto the mixtape." As of right now, he's working on music, and might even have a major hook up at AllHipHop.com for more promotion. Too excited for him! His talent beats several rappers out here now, and I'm excited to see where things go for him in the future.

Real Husbands of Hollywood!

Haha here is the 3-part skit from the BET Awards that had everybody rolling, "Real Husbands of Hollywood," featuring Kevin Hart, Nelly, Jermaine Dupri, Bobby Brown, and Nick Cannon. The skit was a parody of top reality shows, "Basketball Wives" and "The Real Housewives of Atlanta," and the like. Even had a feature from Basketball Wife Tami Roman. Hands down, one of my favorite moments of the show last night. Definitely would LOVE if it could be a real show! Hey, Skank Robbers from BET Awards 2009 is going to be a movie. May as well! It was too funny! Check ll three videos after the jump! (Courtesy of Necole Bitchie)

REVIEW: BET Awards 2011

*SPOILER ALERT* This review covers all of the 2011 BET Awards!

Morning everyone! So last night was the 2011 BET Awards, the occasion of the year for the network. So of course, I had to do a review. I've been doing them since I started the blog in 2009, now that I think about it. Even though that was only two short years ago, it's become tradition for me to do these reviews. I'll probably throw in some of my favorite moments of the award show a bit later, along with fashion wins and SEVERAL EPIC LOSSES of the night haha!

Now the review is long, longer than usual I think (SO much to say!), so I've put things in bold, trying help out with navigation a bit if you want to skip around.

"No One Gonna Love You-"-Jennifer Hudson (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

"No One Gonna Love You," is the second single to J. Hud's second album, I Remember Me. The official video was released earlier today. It was directed by Diana Martel, and features Hassan Johnson (Wee-Bay Brice from The Wire) as Jennifer's love interest. The video tells the story of the couple celebrating their anniversary, with Jennifer tired of her man constantly letting her down. She sings that she is willing to fight for love, but wants him to realize that she's a good woman, and the woman for him. It seems as if, when anniversary night finally comes, that he has failed her again, but he has a surprise for her! Check out the video below!

"No One Gonna Love You"-Jennifer Hudson

Love, love, LOVE Jennifer Hudson! So excited that she's back into music! She looked great in this video! Even did a tiny bit of dancing, too! Go J. Hud!!!

New Look!

Spotlight is looking different today huh?! Like I said yesterday, I have joined under a new blog umbrella, EllaThought.com. Along with other blogs, In The Spotlight will be a part of an online magazine of sorts, which will feature life and relationship advice, fitness tips, celeb news, restaurant and music reviews, etc. It's a work in progress.

Only condition was that I had to change my layout to match the head blog. Sooooo here it is! Nothing else about Spotlight will change. I'm still the same blogger, doing reviews and spotlights on upcoming artists. Only now my layout is a variation of pink, grey and white. It's going to take some getting used to, I know, even on my part. But it's reflects a new change for Spotlight, and hopefully new growth.

"Schoolin' Life" -Beyoncé (Song)

I should do a post/song from Beyoncé every day until next Tuesday, but I'm absolutely sure people would get sick of me. But hey, King B is back! And she gets sassy on this 80s inspired song, "Schoolin' Life," which will be released on the deluxe edition of her upcoming album, 4, set to be released NEXT TUESDAY!!!

The song is said to draw from music legend Prince, and features B as the teacher to her listeners. She shouts out the "20-somethings, 30-somethings, 40-somethings, sexy-somethings and little somethings," and schools them on life. "Time really moves fast," she advices. "Make your life what you decide / Baby, party til the Fire Marshall shut this sucker down." I'm with you B! It's one of those that ladies can jam to in the morning while they're getting ready. At least, that's what I plan on doing!

I don't care what any one says. The rumors about Columbia Records planning on this album flopping, "Run The World" not charting so high, etc. From the singles she's released, B is really breaking out of the box, and after at least 15 years in the game, she deserves to. These songs are really different from her previous albums, but amazing none the less. #BeyTakeover!

Spotlight Celebrates Two Years!!!

I'm in a great mood this morning! In The Spotlight celebrates two years officially today, June 23. Two years ago, I was sitting at my desk at work, bored as ever, and came up with this blog that has become such a big part of my life! And it's become bigger than I ever thought it would! Each year, more and more attention has come to Spotlight, and I'm very proud of the work that I've done and how far the blog has come!

And it has pretty far to go! I have decided to join Spotlight under another blog, EllaThought.com, which is run by an alumnus of my college that I know. She approached me with the idea yesterday to join under her blog, becoming an online mag of sorts, with different blogs on advice, fitness, societal issues, restaurant and music reviews, and, of course, celebrity news from moi! And I've agreed to be a part of the team! So the blog will get a new layout soon, and Spotlight will officially become a EllaThought blog! However, Spotlight will still be the same! Still doing artists' spotlights, giving my real opinion about everything, doing what I love! Just a new look, and new joint venture. Spotlight's going places :-)

Pink's New Baby Girl Willow!

Singer Pink gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Willow Sage Hart, on June 2 with her motor-cross husband Carey Hart. The pic was a People exclusive. Pink told them of being a mom,  "You hear people say it all the time, how life changes so drastically. But you can't possibly grasp how beautiful that is until you have your child." Such a beautiful family! Willow is absolutely gorgeous! Congrats to Pink and Carey!

Amy Winehouse Cancels Entire European Tour

According to People, Amy Winehouse's current European tour has been canceled! The tour was to have 12 stops before ending on August 15 in Bucharest, Romania.

This past Saturday, Amy tried to perform in Belgrade, showing up an hour late, then stumbling around and slurring the words to her 2008 song "Just Friends." She even greeted the crowd of 20,000 by shouting, "Hello, Athens," (???!) according to the U.K.'s Telegraph newspaper. Following the incident, Amy apologized to fans and canceled Monday's scheduled performance in Istanbul and Wednesday's in Athens.

Now the entire tour has been canceled. No word if Amy will be heading back to rehab for her problem with alcohol. She has just finished a stint late last month.

I don't deny this woman's talent at all, but she has problems. She commits to change, this is going to be a consistent problem. There is nothing more that pisses me off than when an artist with talent starts blowing it for no good reason. I'm honestly hoping that she goes into rehab now for as long as it takes for her to stop. Alcoholism is a serious problem, and she needs help with it. If that means she needs to take off of music for a while, so be it. That's what I would be telling her if I was on her team. Because what purpose does it do for her to have tours and appearances if she's drunk? And more important than the career, this is her LIFE. I don't know if somebody told her that or not, but she definitely doesn't need to be saying no to rehab.

"1+1" Cover- Q Parker of 112 (Song)

Morning all! Hope all is well. Starting off Spotlight again with a cover of Beyoncé's "1+1" by Q Parker of 112. Swear I'm loving this song, especially after I saw Jay-Z's recording of B rehearsing live backstage at American Idol. Now of course, I love B's version better, because I love her better haha! But Q's voice just makes me shiver whenever I hear him, so I had to share. Soft yet powerful, he definitely put his own flair on the song. This song, to me, takes a lot of emotion to pull off, and Q did his thing! Check it out below!

In other news, Beyoncé's fourth album, 4, comes out NEXT TUESDAY!!!! You know, for those of us who didn't download! Can't do my girl like that.
